A safety recall has been issued by Forest River, Inc. affecting certain models of their 2025 RPOD RPT197 and RPT205 travel trailers due to a potential safety hazard involving the propane tanks.
The recall affects 116 units that may have inadequate fasteners securing the propane tank tray to the vehicle’s chassis. This defect could cause the tanks to detach, creating a significant road hazard and increasing the risk of accidents.
The recall stems from a manufacturing error where the propane tank tray was not properly fastened to the trailer. As a result, the tanks could become loose while the vehicle is in motion, leading to property damage or a crash.
Forest River has identified that all 116 affected units, produced between June 28, 2024, and December 10, 2024, are potentially at risk.
The company urges owners of the affected trailers to remove the propane tanks immediately and avoid using the vehicles until they can be repaired. Forest River has committed to installing the necessary fasteners free of charge at authorized dealerships.
Owners of affected units will receive formal notification letters by January 22, 2025, with further instructions on how to proceed.
In the meantime, Forest River advises owners to contact their customer service at 1-574-642-3119 for more details or to schedule repairs.
The recall follows a routine inspection at Forest River’s manufacturing plant, where it was discovered on December 10, 2024, that the LP tray did not have the appropriate number of fasteners. On December 13, 2024, the company’s Corporate Recall Committee voted to initiate the recall.
For more information on the recall, owners can also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) at 1-888-327-4236 or visit nhtsa.gov.
Owners can also contact Forest River customer service at (574) 642-3119 for more information.
Forest River has emphasized the urgency of the recall and is working swiftly to address the issue, ensuring the proper fasteners are now being used in production.
The company has also stated that customers who have previously paid for repairs related to this defect may be eligible for a refund.
