About 488,000 units of the Charmast Power Bank model W1056 have been recalled due to safety concerns.
In a significant safety alert, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has announced the recall of approximately 488,000 Charmast power banks model W1056, which were sold exclusively on Amazon.com from December 2018 through September 2024, priced between $14 and $25.
Consumers are urged to immediately stop using the Charmast power banks after reports of the devices overheating, catching fire, and causing burns.
The lithium-ion batteries inside these power banks are at risk of malfunctioning, potentially igniting, which can pose significant fire and burn hazards.
According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Charmast has received 44 reports of the power banks expanding, igniting, melting, overheating, or emitting smoke.
In some cases, consumers suffered burns or blisters from the faulty devices.
The recalled power banks were sold in several colors, including black, blue, green, mint, pink, and white. The brand name “Charmast” is printed on the front, while the model number “W1056” is printed on the back of the device.
What Consumers Should Do
Consumers who have purchased the recalled power banks are advised to stop using them immediately. They can contact Charmast directly to receive a full refund.
To initiate the refund process, consumers will need to provide photographs of their power bank (showing the model number) along with their names, the date the photograph was taken, and a permanent marker inscription above the label.
Additionally, the power cord should be severed as part of the return process.
It is important that consumers dispose of the recalled power banks safely. The CPSC advises that the lithium-ion batteries be disposed of in accordance with local and state ordinances, as these potentially hazardous batteries require special handling.
“Do not throw this recalled power bank in the trash. Do not deposit this recalled power bank in used battery recycling boxes found at various retail and home improvement stores,” the CPSC advises.
According to the CPSC, Charmast has confirmed receiving 44 reports of issues with the power banks, including reports of devices expanding, catching fire, and emitting smoke. Four of the incidents resulted in burns or blisters to consumers.
Consumers who have purchased the affected power bank are urged to act quickly to ensure their safety and follow the recall instructions carefully.
