Walmart is recalling its Marketside Fresh Cut Cucumber Slices after concerns of potential Salmonella contamination linked to a previous recall of whole cucumbers supplied by SunFed Produce, LLC.

The affected cucumber slices were produced in select stores and sold under the Marketside brand with UPC/PLU: 62969, an average unit weight of 1.5 lbs, and date codes up to and including December 1, 2024.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) notified SunFed Produce, based in Rio Rico, Arizona, that the cucumbers were associated with a series of reported Salmonella infections. As a result, SunFed initiated a recall of their whole cucumbers, which may have been used in the production of the affected pre-cut cucumber slices sold under Walmart’s Marketside brand.

Salmonella is a dangerous bacterium that can cause serious illness, particularly in vulnerable populations such as young children, the elderly, and individuals with weakened immune systems.

Symptoms of a Salmonella infection typically include fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting, and abdominal cramps. In rare cases, the infection can spread to the bloodstream, leading to more severe complications like infected aneurysms, endocarditis, and arthritis.

Symptoms usually appear between six hours and six days after exposure and can last from four to seven days.

Walmart is urging customers who have purchased the recalled cucumber slices to check their products and dispose of them immediately. Consumers should not consume, serve, or distribute the affected products. Any surfaces that may have come into contact with the cucumbers should be thoroughly cleaned and sanitized to prevent cross-contamination.

Those who have purchased the affected product and are unsure if they have it in their possession are encouraged to visit Walmart’s website or contact the retailer’s Customer Care Team at 1-800-925-6278 for more information.

If you have consumed the recalled cucumber slices and are feeling ill, it is recommended to consult a healthcare provider. For any additional questions or concerns, consumers can visit Walmart’s help page online or call the customer service number provided.

The recall underscores the ongoing vigilance of both retailers and suppliers to ensure the safety of fresh produce, and Walmart is working closely with SunFed Produce to resolve the issue and prevent further health risks.
