Walmart Dresser Recalled Due to Tip-Over and Entrapment Hazards

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has issued a recall for approximately 800 GIKPAL 12-Drawer Dressers sold exclusively through Walmart.com.

These dressers, which pose a serious tip-over and entrapment risk, have been deemed unsafe unless properly anchored to the wall.

The recalled dressers, identified by model numbers HI1437_13, HI1437_14, and HI1437_02, are unstable if not securely fastened to a wall. This creates a potential hazard, particularly for young children, who could be at risk of injury or death if the dresser tips over.

Fortunately, no incidents or injuries have been reported so far. However, the dressers do not meet the safety standards outlined in the STURDY Act, which sets performance and labeling requirements for furniture to prevent tip-over accidents.

The GIKPAL dressers are available in rustic brown, black, or white wood finishes, with a black frame, fabric drawers, and black handles.

They measure approximately 31 inches wide, 12 inches deep, and 48 inches tall, weighing around 35 pounds. The model number, “Fabric Dresser,” and “Made in China” are listed on the product packaging.

Consumers who purchased one of these dressers between January and November 2024 for about $91 are urged to stop using the product immediately if it is not properly anchored.

The CPSC advises consumers to place the dresser in an area where children cannot access it.

ONME Direct, the manufacturer, and Walmart are contacting all known purchasers directly with instructions on how to receive a full refund. Consumers will need to submit a photo of the product being disposed of as part of the refund process.
