John Deere is recalling about 39,000 ZTrak™ Zero Turn Mowers with Kawasaki engines due to a potential fire hazard.

The voltage regulator in the engine may fail during operation or storage, causing the engine to overheat, which could lead to fire and burn risks.

The recall affects Z720E, Z730M, Z740R, and Z760R models, which are green and yellow with the model number and “John Deere” printed below the seat. The serial number can be found on the right side of the mower, near the rear tire.

As stated by the Consumer Product Safety Commission on its website, Kawasaki Motors Corp. USA has received five reports of fires and 26 reports of the mowers melting or smoking.

Fortunately, no injuries have been reported. However, owners of the affected mowers are urged to immediately stop using the machines and contact an authorized John Deere dealer for a free repair.

The affected mowers were sold at authorized John Deere dealerships nationwide from October 2018 to September 2024, with prices ranging from $8,000 to $11,500.
