The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a recall of multiple Tzatziki sauce and yogurt products over concerns of potential salmonella contamination.
The recall, classified as Class I, signifies a high risk to public health, with potential for serious illness or death. The affected products were distributed across 26 states.
The recall involves products from Grecian Delight/Kronos, a company based in Elk Grove Village, Illinois. Among the affected items are Grecian Delight Tzatziki sauce, Sysco Classic Tzatziki sauce, US Foods Chef’s Line Greek Yogurt Tzatziki, and Nick The Greek Tzatziki and Spicy Yogurt Pails.
Specifically, the recall targets 4,908 cases of Grecian Delight Tzatziki sauce (3.75 lb. tubs) and Sysco Classic Tzatziki sauce, linked to Lot numbers 4304, 4303, and 110124.
Additionally, 686 cases of US Foods Chef’s Line Greek Yogurt Tzatziki (4 lb. tubs) and 300 Nick The Greek Tzatziki Pails (42 lb.) from Lot 4305 are affected.
The recall also includes 141 Nick The Greek Spicy Yogurt Pails (42 lb.), identified by Lot 4305.
Distribution of these products spans a wide area, with shipments reaching Arkansas, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, New Jersey, Nevada, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and Wisconsin.
The recall was voluntarily initiated by Grecian Delight/Kronos on December 2, 2024, following the discovery of possible contamination.
Consignees have been notified through letters, but no formal press release has been issued by the company or the FDA at this stage.
The recall remains ongoing as of January 3, 2025, the date the FDA classified the event.
Salmonella is a bacterium that can cause severe gastrointestinal illness, including symptoms such as fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain.
