Daily Veggies Enoki Mushrooms Recalled Due to Listeria Contamination Risk

New Age International Inc., based in Brooklyn, NY, is recalling its 200g packages of Daily Veggies Enoki Mushrooms due to potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes, a harmful bacteria that can cause serious infections, particularly in vulnerable populations.

The recall affects products distributed nationwide and is being initiated after the presence of Listeria was detected in a sample from a retail store in Baltimore, Maryland.

The recalled Enoki mushrooms, sold in clear 200g plastic packages marked with the UPC Code 8809159458890, pose a serious health risk, particularly for young children, the elderly, pregnant women, and individuals with weakened immune systems.

In healthy individuals, infection with Listeria can result in symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. In pregnant women, however, Listeria infection can lead to miscarriages, stillbirths, or other complications.

The contamination was discovered after samples of the product were collected by the Maryland Department of Health Laboratories Administration and tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes. No illnesses have been reported to date, and the remaining stock in the warehouse has been destroyed to prevent further risk.

Consumers who purchased 200g packages of Daily Veggies Enoki Mushrooms between October and November of 2024 are advised to either destroy the product or return it to the point of purchase for a full refund.

For more information or to address concerns, consumers can contact New Age International at 718-808-1018. The company is working closely with regulatory authorities to address the issue promptly.

This recall was announced by the company on December 11, 2024, and published by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on their website on December 12, 2024.
