Children’s Helmets Recalled Due to Risk of Head Injury

Wemfg has issued a recall for approximately 6,500 children’s multi-purpose bike helmets, citing serious safety concerns.

According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the helmets fail to meet federal safety standards for positional stability, impact labeling, and certification. This poses a risk of head injury if the helmets do not provide adequate protection during a crash.

The recall, announced on January 8, 2025, applies to helmets sold exclusively online through Amazon.com between April and July 2024. Prices ranged from $26 to $32.

Details of the Recalled Helmets

The affected helmets, model “MD-710-S,” are designed for children and sold in size small (S), fitting head circumferences of approximately 19 ½ to 21 ¼ inches.

They were available in a variety of vibrant color combinations, including blue/pink, green/blue, pink/yellow/green, and purple/pink/yellow.

All helmets feature black padding, straps, and a black and red buckle. A black and red plastic knob at the back of the helmet allows for size adjustment.

Consumers can identify the model by checking a white label inside the helmet.

Hazard and Safety Concerns

The CPSC determined that the helmets violate federal safety regulations designed to ensure the durability and effectiveness of bicycle helmets.

Specifically, the helmets lack sufficient positional stability, fail to meet impact labeling requirements, and do not carry the necessary certification.

Without these safety measures, the helmets could fail to protect children during an accident, increasing the risk of head injuries.

Although no injuries have been reported, Wemfg is urging consumers to stop using the helmets immediately.

Consumers are instructed to destroy the helmets by cutting off the straps and taking a photo of the detached straps.

To receive a full refund, the photo must be sent to Wemfg at [email protected] along with the Amazon order number.

After submitting proof of destruction, consumers should dispose of the helmets properly.

Wemfg and Amazon are contacting all known purchasers directly to facilitate the recall and refund process.
