CPSC Warns Consumers to Stop Using Rehoopex 6-Drawer Dressers Due to Tip-Over and Entrapment Hazards

Recalled Rehoopex 6-Drawer Dresser

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has issued a warning about Rehoopex 6-Drawer Dressers, sold by Well King International Trading Limited, for posing a serious tip-over hazard.

These dressers are unstable if not properly anchored to a wall, especially dangerous to children, and violate federal safety standards designed to prevent tip-over accidents.

The Rehoopex 6-Drawer Dressers, sold in various colors including white, wood, and a wood/white combination, fail to meet the performance and labeling requirements of the STURDY Act, a law that mandates furniture safety standards to protect users, particularly children, from tip-over incidents.

The dressers are considered hazardous if not secured to a wall, posing significant risks of injury or even death if they tip over.

The CPSC has issued a Notice of Violation to the manufacturer, Well King International Trading Limited, doing business as Rehoopex, but the company has not agreed to voluntarily recall the product or offer a remedy to consumers.

Product Details

The dressers, sold online at Amazon.com from September 2023 through August 2024, measure about 47 inches wide by 31 inches tall and weigh approximately 84 pounds.

They were sold for between $115 and $170 each. These units are primarily used for clothing storage and have six drawers.

Consumers should immediately stop using these dressers unless they are properly anchored to the wall, as unsecured units are highly prone to tipping.

CPSC urges consumers to take immediate action by either anchoring the dressers securely to the wall or disposing of them entirely. The agency emphasizes that these furniture units should not be sold or given away due to the significant safety risks they pose.

Key recommendations:

  • Anchor the dresser: If you have the Rehoopex 6-Drawer Dresser, ensure it is properly secured to the wall using a wall anchoring kit, which can often be provided with the product or purchased separately.
  • Dispose of the dresser: If you cannot safely anchor the dresser, dispose of it to eliminate the risk of injury.
  • Do not sell or donate: The dresser should not be sold, donated, or given away, as it continues to pose a danger to users.
