The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced a voluntary recall of over 130,000 pounds of Open Farm Freeze-Dried Raw pet food products due to potential plastic contamination.
The recall, initiated by SFD Opco, LLC on December 11, 2024, remains ongoing and affects multiple states, including Texas, Florida, Arizona, Pennsylvania, Michigan, California, Rhode Island, Colorado, and South Carolina.
The recall involves several varieties of Open Farm pet food, all packaged in pouches and distributed to centers in the affected states.

The recall was initiated after the detection of plastic fragments in the pet food.
Although classified as Class III – meaning the issue is unlikely to cause adverse health effects – the FDA and SFD Opco, LLC advise pet owners to check their inventory and stop using the affected products immediately.
According to the report, no official press release has been issued regarding this recall. Pet owners, however, can return affected products to the point of purchase for a refund.
