FSIS Issues Health Alert for Uninspected Chicken Products Sold at Costco

RTE chicken product sold at a Costco retailer in California

The Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) of United States Department of Agriculture on December 4, 2024 issued a public health alert for certain frozen ready-to-eat (RTE) chicken products that were sold at a Costco location in California.

The products, which did not undergo required import reinspection, are no longer available for purchase, so a recall was not issued.

The affected product is a 5-pound cardboard box containing “Yummy Dino Buddies Holiday NUGGETS Breaded Nugget Shaped White Meat Chicken Patties” with a “Best if Used by” date of November 6, 2026, and Lot #241556.

The product carries the Canadian establishment seal “348” and was distributed to a single Costco store located at 7095 Marketplace Drive, Goleta, California.

The issue came to light when FSIS inspection personnel discovered that the products had not been presented for the mandatory FSIS import reinspection process.

While there have been no reported illnesses linked to these products, the FSIS is concerned that some packages may still be in consumers’ freezers. As a precaution, consumers who purchased these items are advised not to consume them.

The agency recommends discarding the product or returning it to the place of purchase.

Consumers or media with questions about the health alert can contact Andrea Staub, Senior Vice President of Corporate Communications for Maxi Canada, Inc., at 410-341-2755 or via email at [email protected]. For additional consumer inquiries, Maxi Consumer Care can be reached at 866-866-6164.

As always, individuals concerned about potential illness should consult a healthcare provider.

This public health alert was made by the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) on December 4, 2024.
