FSIS Recalls Ineligible Frozen Siluriformes Fish Products Imported From Vietnan

Recalled fish product

NAIL Factory, a California-based importer, is recalling approximately 1,635 pounds of frozen Siluriformes fish products that were produced by an establishment in Vietnam that is not authorized to export such products to the United States.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced the recall on December 19, 2024, citing concerns that the products were not presented for proper import reinspection upon arrival in the U.S.

The recall affects three specific fish products, all of which were sold in plastic containers and carry a “BEST BEFORE: Dec 30, 2025” label.

The products include:

  • 28.2-oz. plastic containers of “Dac san dong que CA TRE VANG KHO TO Stewed Walking Catfish”
  • 28.2-oz. plastic containers of “Dac san dong que CA HU KHO TO Stewed Shark Catfish”
  • 24.7-oz. plastic containers of “Dac san dong que CA TRE VANG CHIEN NUOC MAM GUNG Fried Walking Catfish”

These products do not bear the required establishment number or USDA mark of inspection, but they do feature an FDA registration number (FDA Registration #10634049806).

Although the products are registered with the FDA, FSIS is the regulatory body responsible for overseeing Siluriformes fish, not the FDA.

“While the products bear an FDA registration number, FSIS regulates Siluriformes fish and not FDA,” wrote the FSIS in the announcement.

The affected products were distributed to retail stores in Arizona, California, and Iowa, and were also sent to nail salons, where they were either sold directly to consumers or used for promotional purposes.

The recall was initiated after the FSIS discovered the ineligible fish products during routine surveillance activities at a retail store in California.

While no adverse reactions related to the consumption of these products have been reported to date, the FSIS is urging consumers who may have purchased or received these items to dispose of them immediately or return them to the place of purchase.
