Magnetic Building Sticks Sets Recalled Due to Magnet Ingestion Hazard

Elongdi has voluntarily recalled its Magnetic Building Sticks Sets due to a serious safety risk involving high-powered magnets that could be ingested by children, posing a significant hazard. The recall affects approximately 500 units of the multicolored toy sets, sold exclusively online through Amazon.

The sets, which contain 130 pieces, include 100 magnetic sticks made of plastic and metal, and 30 steel balls. The toys are packaged in a box featuring the “Elongdi” logo and the words “Magnetic Sticks” on both the front and back. The item number is E107.

According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the high-powered magnets in the set pose a dangerous ingestion hazard.

If a child swallows one or more of the magnets, they can attract to each other or another metal object in the digestive system, leading to potential injuries such as intestinal perforations, twisting, blockages, infections, and blood poisoning.

In severe cases, ingesting the magnets can result in death.

Though no incidents or injuries have been reported to date, the CPSC has highlighted the alarming number of magnet ingestion cases treated in hospital emergency departments—estimated at 2,400 cases between 2017 and 2021.

The agency is also aware of eight deaths from 2005 to 2021 linked to hazardous magnets, including two outside the United States.

What Consumers Should Do

Consumers are urged to immediately stop using the recalled Magnetic Building Sticks Sets and keep them away from children.

Elongdi is offering a full refund for the product. Those affected by the recall can contact the company directly to receive a pre-paid shipping label for the return of the toy sets.

Amazon is also notifying all known purchasers directly about the recall and providing instructions on how to return the items.
